Axis’ Zipstream technology was developed specifically for video surveillance and can lower bandwidth and storage requirements by an average of 50% or more. It’s also fully compatible with H.264 compression and leading video management systems. The new version of Axis’ Zipstream has been updated for use with pan, tilt and zoom cameras.
Axis Communications, the market leader in network video, today announced
that its popular Zipstream technology can now automatically adjust to pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) camera movements. Storage and bandwidth consumption can be reduced by 50% or more even while PTZ movements are taking place.
"Since being introduced one year ago, Axis’ Zipstream technology has been very successful in the market and has received many industry awards,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications, Inc. “The new version of Axis’ Zipstream can adjust to PTZ camera movements in real-time, offering even further storage and bandwidth savings and eliminating bitrate spikes.”Axis’ Zipstream technology analyzes and optimizes the network camera’s video stream in real-time. Scenes containing important details are recorded in full image quality and resolution while other, less important details are compressed to use available bandwidth and storage. For example, important forensic details such as, faces, tattoos or license plates are isolated and preserved, while irrelevant details such as white walls, lawns and vegetation can be adjusted in order to achieve better storage savings.
PTZ camera movements can cause bandwidth spikes resulting in blurry, unclear footage, in live viewing as well as in previous recordings. Axis’ Zipstream technology is now able to adjust to these camera movements. Bandwidth spikes can be avoided with a new dynamic rate controller that is automatically enabled when the camera is being panned, tilted or zoomed.
Axis’ Zipstream technology is fully compatible with existing H.264 network infrastructure and video management software and is a more efficient H.264 implementation, lowering bandwidth and storage requirements by an average 50% or more. The savings in storage have been achieved by adding a new module inside the video compression engine of a network camera that ensures important details in the image receive proper attention in the video stream while unnecessary data is removed.
Axis PTZ cameras that support this version of Zipstream are AXIS P5515/-E, AXIS P5614-E, AXIS P5635-E and AXIS Q6114-E, Q6115-E and can be updated for free.
